Southern Cross Support Services (SCSS) was established on 1 July 2011 with a small group of people passionate about providing something different for people needing disability support services.
Our vision of providing ‘Purpose, Belonging and Security’ has underpinned our rapid growth into one of Queensland’s leading support service organisations and it remains as important today in shaping our strategic direction.
SCSS has grown at such a rapid pace that it now has almost 1,000 staff, 9 offices and 1 shared office space across Queensland, with plans to expand across state borders in the future.
Purpose, Belonging and Security
It is Southern Cross Support Services (SCSS) sound foundation of ‘purpose’ that has enabled amazing support and growth establishing the business as one of the largest support services within Central Queensland and Wide Bay Burnett. SCSS are proud to be employing a strong mix of well-trained, experienced employees focused on meeting clients’ needs.
In November 2018, SCSS opened its newest feature, a Drop in Centre for Clients and Support Workers to have a welcoming place to visit and have tea, coffee or some
cold water and spend time amongst friends. The centre has been duly titled “The Crib” by our clients and sees clients taking part in group activities such as games, music therapy, cooking, fun and laughter and much more.
The growth of the for-profit business is attributed to the commitment by management and staff to ensure every client is consulted with and listened to, and the services they receive are tailored to their needs and desires.
Based on a Vision of providing ‘Purpose, Belonging and Security’, meaning that every person the business supports feels valued and has life experiences that are meaningful and, importantly, fun.
It is SCSS’s sound foundation of ‘purpose’ that has enabled such growth and today the business is one of the largest support services within Central Queensland and Wide Bay, employing a strong mix of well-trained, experienced employees focused on meeting clients’ needs.
Our point of difference
SCSS’s services extend beyond the traditional disability support to include the NDIS All Plan Management, NDIS Access Support Coordination, Short Term Accommodation, Supported Independent Living (SIL), Child Protection and Family Day Care Services alike.
Our point of difference, however, is the quality of our service and the uniqueness that our tailored support can provide. SCSS clients participate in activities that include 4x4 driving, fishing and beach trips, camping, cruises, equine programs, rock concerts etc. If there is something that one of our clients has a life goal, our staff will identify how we can achieve it together.
SCSS is engaged in the sponsorship of events, programs, and community engagement activities to support clients interact, socialise and access activities they desire; and to promote our services.
Where to from here
Significantly, SCSS’s growth has led to an organisational restructure in 2019 with a new layer of senior management included to manage the rapid expansion of staff, clients, and additional business support functions.
Importantly, SCSS released its ‘Growth Without Limits’ strategic plan in 2019, setting the direction for the organisation between now and 2022.
It is an exciting time for the organisation as it sets its sight on future opportunities and expansionary activities but it would be remiss of me not to highlight the fact that this organisation would not be where it is today without the foresight of its directors and dedication of management and staff to achieve in a climate of continual change and challenges.
